White Tara is a goddess who embodies the spirit of Compassion.  Her love heals at the source of all disease, bringing health, strength, longevity. She wears the Bodhisattva ornaments. A Bodhisattva vows to return to this world until the enlightenment of all sentient beings is accomplished. The white of her light shines through as a beautiful rainbow. She is the experience of oneness in all colors and all peoples. Her love and compassion for all others, comes from loving herself first as a point of light and God in all of its forms.

The Legend of White Tara

White Tara began life when she showed up as the tear of Avalokiteshvara, who is the Dali Lama reincarnation in this time period. She appeared when Avalokiteshvara, the Buddha of all Buddha’s, moved into a state of compassion and the suffering he saw made him cry.  It is then she appeared. She was the solidification of true  compassion expressed in that tear. The peaceful, kindhearted White Tara gently protects us bringing long life and peace.

In Sanskrit, the name Tara means Star. She was also called She Who Brings Forth Life, The Great Compassionate Mother, and The Embodiment of Wisdom, and the Great Protectress.   In Buddhist tradition,

Tara is actually much greater than a Goddess. She is a female Buddha, an enlightened one who takes human form to remain in oneness with every living thing. As The goddess of universal compassion, Tara represents virtuous and enlightened action. It is said that her compassion for living beings is stronger than a mother's love for her children. She protects earthly travel and guards her followers on their spiritual journey to enlightenment.

White Tara has seven eyes.  in addition to the usual two, she has a third eye on her forehead and one on each of her hands and feet. This symbolizes her vigilance and ability to see all the suffering in the world. The "Tara of Seven Eyes" is the form of the goddess especially popular in Mongolia.
